Resolume Avenue & Arena 6 Beta Available Now!

Ooh boy are we ever excited to finally show what we have been working on for years now: Resolume Avenue and Arena version 6. This is by far the biggest release we have ever done. It has a completely rewritten video rendering engine that is an order of magnitude faster than the previous so you can play more layers, higher resolution video and thus bigger stages.

Checkout the video to see the highlights of version 6 and checkout the What's New page for more details.

Beta
Because there is so much new it still has a few rough edges but we could not wait any longer we wanted to share this beta with you now. We need your help in the coming months to find the last few bugs and give us feedback. Together we'll tame this beast and have it ready for main stage as soon as possible. It's available for all Resolume customers so please log in to your account and hit the download.

Buy Now! (limited time offer)
Buy Resolume now because only now you get both Arena 5 AND Arena 6 for the price of one. Or Avenue 4 AND Avenue 6 for the price of one. This offer applies while Resolume 6 is in beta, so don't wait too long. Did you buy Avenue or Arena in the past couple of weeks? Contact us and we'll work something out.

And you will have questions, so here goes.

How do I access the beta?
Log in to your Resolume account and the beta will be available from the download page.

But I don't own Resolume! Can I still try the beta?
It's for customers only at the moment. If you like, you can hop on the Resolume train and buy 4 or 5 now. You'll get 6 for free.

OMGZ! This is amazing! How much for the upgrade?
€119 for Avenue, €319 for Arena. Log in to your Resolume account to see all your upgrade options.

Hahaha. This thing won’t even open. Did you guys even test it?
If you think it's bad now, you should have seen it six months ago. But yeah, it's a beta and it will crash. It’s not a question of if, it’s a question of when. Help us make it better by using the crash reporter to tell us what’s going wrong.

And remember!

Noticing.jpg
I just bought Resolume and now you bring out an update? This sucks!
Yes, that sucks. Resolume is always under active development, so updates happen from time to time. If you think that you've been treated unfairly in any way, get at us via mail@resolume.com and we’ll work something out.

What? No Feature X? You promised Feature X! I can’t live without Feature X!
We crammed as much as we could in Res 6, but the line had to be drawn somewhere. It turns out there’s only 24 hours in a day and it’s nice to spend at least a few of those sleeping. If you've mentioned Feature X before, we know how much it means to you, so we hope you can be patient a little longer.

Why can't I load my Res 4 or 5 compositions?
It's still a work in progress. In the final release, you'll be able to import all your old comps. Right now, let's focus on what's new instead of what's old!

Only two effect presets? What gives?
So yeah, work in progress. The final release will be packed with presets. Made an amazing preset? Send it over!

Comment from Babcom:

Congrats on a huge update and a fantastic new set of features! And what a thrilling video to show things off :D

Will jump right on it!!!

Comment from Joris:

Thanks for all the kind words, guys and girls. We worked our ass off the last few days, and were super nervous about today's release. The whole team is now beaming with pride.

Let's try to put feedback about specific bugs or features into separate threads, so we can keep track of them. Otherwise it's easy to get buried underneath the other feedback.

Comment from Warspite:

6 is extremely good with h264 playback. I do not know exactly because limited with ssd speed (time to switch to nvme), but it seems that it is 10 times more performant on my 12-core xeon than Arena 5. New engine rocks!

Comment from Dubrunner:

This is wild, awesome release; well done guys!

Comment from JimmyP:

I have a show this weekend, I think I might give this a real-world test, with an Arena5 running alongside just in case. it is a beta software after all. ill report back with how it went.

I'm digging all the new features and so far im liking it. super excited to get NDI working!

Comment from francoe:

Can't try it, but What's New shows me a lot of things that we claim over years.
Even if is not ready for release, this is the biggest announce since a long time.
Just Love it!

Comment from p8guitar:

Is there already a manual that explains the new features? "Application - view manual" does nothing.
I'm new to Resolume, so the "current version" manual https://resolume.com/manual/en/r5/start will lead me a long way. But the people that test the new features will certainly have an easier life testing when they know how the features where meant to work... ;-)

I'm sorry, but I don't see a manual for Resolume 6 there, or any reference to the new features.

Comment from Oaktown:

There is no manual as of yet BUT if you scroll below the FAQ section you will find a bunch of very detailed "how-to" guides organized under the following headers:

  • * Installing & Registering
    * Workflow
    * Content
    * Transform, Masks & Effects
    * Output
    * Controlling Resolume
    * Best Practices
    * Nerds
    * First Aid (not available yet!)
Do you feel the love yet! <3

Comment from mfo:

Hey guys,
this new release looks great! and finally covers a number of important areas, sweet.
Fantastic news are: HiDPI support (finally!), mask layers, thumbnail updates, midi-assignale horizontal scrollbar (ha!), text generators, solid color source's colour shown, color picker, over-all speed improvements, brand new shortcut management, view-switches for many functionalities ...
And pretty nice to see that many things discussed in the forums (sometimes long while ago) haven't been forgotten.
Great work!!

Indeed there are alse a few things dearly missed. I will start separate topics for.

Comment from Dirk Diggler:

Hello,
as my first post I have to say you make wonderful software and the Beta is fantastic.

My first official question would be where would you like Beta 6 Avenue bugs reported?

I see some noted here, but mostly the good things, I don't see anything yet in the bug area of these forums.

Would you prefer email contact? Bugzilla? Telepathy? :)

FYI I'm on Win7 64 bit.

Again thanks for making such creative, intuitive tools.
Dirk

Hello, and welcome!
You can report bugs, in the Problems? Bugs? Solutions! section of the forum by creating a new topic.
Please do a search before posting a bug, maybe someone already reported the bug you experience, in that case feel free to join in on the conversation on that topic.

Comment from Dirk Diggler:

Excellent, now looking closer I see a few there, but not my bugs yet.
Thanks,
Dirk

Comment from freaher:

I just love it

Comment from Aux:

Awesome work guys!

Little bugs I found:

In the timeline (example working on an envelope), when right clicking on left of to the envelope the whole envelope / all your changes disappear.

Also I found that when removing decks, they don't immediately disappear from the composition browser, even after saving the project. This seems a bit inconsistent though, sometimes it does work.

Right clicking on a parameter or setting in Resolume resets the parameter or setting to it's default value and state.
The parameter automation and envelope behave the same way.
Also I found that when removing decks, they don't immediately disappear from the composition browser, even after saving the project. This seems a bit inconsistent though, sometimes it does work.
Works nicely for me on mac, if you can find out how this behavior can be triggered, please create a separate thread for this issue in viewforum.php?f=12
Thanks!

Comment from Digitrevx:

Wow can finally use 2 monitors effectively. :O
This is amazing if I can figure out a way to carry 2 screens with me!
Attached screenshot.

Oh also the fact you can map the palette layout on some effects is gold.

Comment from Morph:

First let me say, excellent work guys. The customisable UI and the layer grouping are fantastic additions & may actually get me to switch from my primary app over to Res finally :)

I would like to keep my licence current so am looking to upgrade, just wondering if the 319euro price will be the permanent upgrade from Arena 5 price or is that only a special offer during the beta period and it will go up after?
