Kind of a different setup than what I've seen, but here is a video of me performing one of my tracks in Ableton synced to Resolume. I'm loving this setup!

OMG! Thank you so much! Sure enough, my layers weren't set to full opacity. (the way new layers are automatically set) I've got drop shadows working just fine now! Sorry about the noob-ish question. Like I said, I'm still learning my way around the software.
