Ok, ok, I made a mistake.
Via polling (sending "?" to that very OSC address before) you can get the column name!
Both notations work. "/composition/columns/1/name" and "/composition/selectedcolumn/name".

maybe I miss something, but I can't see how to retrieve columns names via OSC.
Clip names via "/composition/layers/1/clips/1/name" work,
but "/composition/columns/1/name" or "/composition/selectedcolumn/name"... doesn't.

But why not have this extremely useful ability added to already existing functionality .. like .. masks.
I mean, masks do have feathering pretty much everywhere else. e.g. in video editing, compositing, design and photo softwares. i will shut up now^^.

(I agree Joris, it sometimes looks stupid and does no good, but there are other situations where it makes a lot of sense. Like slowing down things that are moving soft anyways, e.g. cloud formations.)
