Go with DLP, you wont be happy with a LCD in a club ( getting Dirty and the black is not real)
then you just need to search a Model with the right throw ratio you ´ll need a projektor with a throw ratio about 1-1.2
Throw ratio = Distance / Screen wide
1 = 5/5
1.2 = 6/5
And the bugdet is tight but ...

in my head its this way:
He set up the Stage & the Projector, and then use the projector and his laptop to create a mask ( or the outlines) of his final output.
Then he uses this outlines to transport them into after effects or ...

DXV = dont run in VLC but run in quicktime / XN view
Rest = play in VLC

DXV is recommended
but if you dont want to jump around ( random mode) or other stuff, and just want to play them straight then i would go with h264... becouse of the filesize.
But i´m not the professional guy to talk in this forum about this topic, i guess someone with more knowledge will come ...

sry i dont use sound at all, but i know some places were you can take a look and play a little bit around.
Main Menu / preferences / audio ( buffer size / output ...)
also if you run the Demo version you should here "resolume" in a robot voice if this sound ok then you know at least that the ...

if not reinstall it. That should fix the missing of DXV in adobe,
