Masks as Clips to trigger: Optimal settings.

Post by HI5 »

I started experimenting with masks as clips to trigger.

I created PNGs with the double resolution of the video clip that should be masked.
Video is 1920x1080 and Maks PNGs are 3840x2160.
I made them that big cause i want to animate the mask position with fft audio input.

Seems to be tough to render cause i recive a little freeze switching two masks @ one time.
(Project is 3840x1080)

Do u have any idea to reduce the requirements. Is it a good idea to make DXV Masks?
Is there another way thand making the mask bigger than the video if i want to move and scale it during the show?

Update on Masks performance:
I compared 3840x2080 PNG to a DXV3 file.

The Comp is 3840x1080 and im around 106 FPS while nothing is playin.
With just 2 masks running im down to 60 FPS.

The PNG costs round about 2FPS less performance per mask. But there is a 10 FPS drop when changing the mask.
DXV changes without a drop in framerate.

So maybe ill make them a little smaller and render all the PNGs to DXV3 with alpha.

when nothing is plays nothing would be rendered in the composition.
and 60 fps would be your output's refresh rate, right?

I experience this little freeze when launching columns with regular dxv too.
(a 3840x1080 uncompressed texture that has to get to the video card at launch immediately,is 16 MBytes to transfer. adding to the already played clips.)

Yes im talking about the fps rate shown in the gui output monitor.

OK just recognized the drop is smaller using the DXV files.
Im new to using masks as clips to trigger in a layer and just want to get max. performance while reaching my goals.

Ill reduce the mask size from 200% to 150% and render the PNGs to DXV with alpha.

I know, I meant when content is playing the maximum framerate will be your outputs framerate if vsync is enabled.

reducing sizes should help.
