Mirror actually mirroring correctly..

Post by drxian »

ok guys why doesn't the MIRROR effect mirror as you would expect like around the centre X or Y axis of the clip?
i can't seem to get the settings right to do this with the current MIRROR effect. you would have thought it was the default...
how can i do this, please..

did you check out the transform and rotation options ?

I read your problem like you just want to have the clip rotate around the Y axis...

Clear all layers
Load a line source in Layer 1. Set it to 1 line, rotation 135, position 50.
Add the Mirror effect (basic preset)
Effect parameters should be x = .5, y = 0, IN/OUT = 1, Flip X = checked, flip y = not checked.
You should now essentially have turned the line into a V
On the Mirror effect loaded on the clip click the "B" to turn bypass on and off, this should help you better see what it is doing.

Now on the mirror effect change x to 0, and y to .5
This should make a chevron pointing right. Again toggle the "B" to more easily see what the effect is doing.

If you're still running into issues, do you best to describe them and I'll see what I can do to help.

I think it sounds more like he wants an "Invert" or "Flip" as it is called in Photoshop. In which case, I just tested Transform and flipped the axis. That seems to be the right choice.
