Best Practice - Strobe visual with speed controlled

Post by zerowaitstate »

What is best practice, when trying to strobe a visual ?

On a per layer bases Does one attach an effect the master setting for a layer or the opacity setting?

When controlling speed does one use a (dmx/midi) shortcut linked to Time line > speed ?

Ultimately i would like to assign a fader on my lighting desk to kick of strobe at slow / med / fast speed then be able to ramp speed up and down with the fader.

Would it be possible to have multiple button click step through layers then fader to control speed.

Any advice appreciated

The best practice is the one that fits your workflow ;)

If you place strobe effects on layers, you can map the parameters of these effects to DMX https://resolume.com/support/en/dmx-shortcuts

If you'd like, you can also try to do the strobe by mapping the layer video fader to DMX directly, and use that to flash your video from the console directly.
