Can't get output to show...

Postby wrybread on Tue Feb 09, 2010 01:44

I'm trying the latest demo of Resolume Avenue on a Windows XP machine, and I can't get the output to appear on my external monitor. One factor I was wondering about is that my external monitor appears in Windows as "monitor 3", while my main interface window is "monitor 1". I'm setting the output window to monitor 3, and have tried both windowed and fullscreen, but nothing will appear.

Interestingly, when I set the output to "windowed" and drag the window to monitor 1 then back to monitor 3, the output appears for a moment and then disappears.

Any tips?

EDIT: Its an Nvidia Gforce 6200 card

EDIT: If I disable the dual head on my Gforce 6200 and use the computer onboard video card, which is "monitor 2" in Windows, I can then run the output in windowed mode on monitor 1. But if I drag it to monitor 2 (the onboard vid card), it blanks out. Interestingly, when I'm using the Geforce's monitors, I can't even get an output when I set the output to windowed on monitor 1 (the output starts for a millisecond and then blanks out).

Let me know if any of the above isn't clear.

i think you should deactivate your onboard graphic card in your bios..
so you get only 2 monitors in windows, the intel graphic won't work (maybe as extra output but seems like it won't).

Thanks for the tip. Just tried that, no luck. But at least now my monitors are showing up in Windows as "monitor 1" and "monitor 2".

I also reinstalled DirectX (version 9), still no improvement.

Another possible clue: nothing will show in my "preview monitor" area.

ok... next step :D
try using other/newer drivers!?
omega drivers often work better!

directX isn't used any more in resolume 3.. now everything works in open-gl!

I tried the Omega drivers but apparently they don't work with the 6200 card, just a black screen.

I found this thread, which fixed my output issue:

http://resolume.com/forum/viewtopic.php ... put#p19041

However now my output is very jerky, looks to be about 5 fps. But if I minimize the main Resolume window, the output on my external monitor plays smoothly. Anyone have any tips about that? Some more possible clues:

- Resolume 2.41 works just fine

- with the Resolume Avenue main interface minimize, I can play fullscreen video on my main monitor and not affect the smooth playback of Resolume's output window. In other words, I don't think my video card is being overwhelmed.

- I have the screen resolution set to 1024x768 on both monitors.

the graphic card isn't the fastest at all...
i had an geforce 7600 and more than 768x576 won't run smooth on it!
try a resolution like 512x384..
which harddisc you play the clips from?

I think you're right, it is the video card. By futzing around I got the frame rate up around 8 fps, but still its jerky.

Its too bad the system requirements of Resolume Avenue are so incredibly high. For example I have about 8 laptops, all using the Intel video card, so none will work with Avenue. They all work just great with Resolume 2.4 though.
