maximum number of decks? r3 live impressions

Post by VibemasterBert »

hello guys,

first thank you for the cool program. r3 is definitely on the right way and a great improvement!

unfortunately i got some problems during the night with the stability of r3 on a 5 hours gig.

i used my macbook pro (2,5 ghz, 2 mb ram, 8600m gt, internal hd) with r3 and my old windows-notebook as backup running resolume 2.41.

in the first 2 hours of my set r3 crashed around 20 times in different situations and i had to be fast to switch the video-signal to my backup notebook
in r 2.41 i always knew when the program is beginning to crash - in r3 its often very unexpected.

After 20 crashed i gave up and did the rest of the set with my old notebook and r 2.41 - without any crash.

this i noticed during the first 2 hours using r3:

i used a composition with resolution 640x480 and 4 layers and my uc-33 midi-controller (you see - nothing special)

- r3 seems to have problems using more as 10 decks in a composition. every time a tried to load more as 10 decks in my composition r3 crashed shortly after.
- after every crash i lost all preloaded decks in my composition and i always got one deck called untitled_1, 5 empty decks and extremely annoying one decks with wrong clips. it seems r3 switched every time some clips in my decks and sometime i lost some clips and got in the same way duplicated in different decks. the most time it helped to load the deck again, but in some decks the clips are permanently changed.
every time i needed to spend a lot of time to bring r3 back to a working condition - and short after i got the next crash. so i spend more time to rebuild my decks and composition and less time in mixing clips :?
- r3 crashed a lot when trying to switch the layer blend mode.
- sometimes r3 lost the midi information during the set. after every crash i tested all controllers on my midi-keyboard and every time i was ok. but after some minutes some controllers refused to work or were knotted with controllers i never linked :?

all in all - r3 is a very cool program and i thank bart and edwin a lot for the good work, but i cant wait to see the new beta. at the moment r3 isn't suitable for me on a live gig an i stay to r 2.41- sadly missing the new features, but more stable.
