RAM

Post by ecin »

I'm thinking of doubling or quadrupling the RAM on my machine. Will it make any difference in the playback performance of Resolume? I'm looking to get more smoother playback running 3 layers. Right now its a bit choppy.

hey ecin!
how much ramm do u have at the moment?
anyway, for smoother playback it would be better to get faster harddrives or even a RAID, if you want to have smoother playback speed! (btw: fastest hardrives are the WD RAPTOR @ 10.000rpm)

I'm running 512 right now in my laptop with an external 7200 drive. Is there a way to do an external RAID drive? I'm new to RAID.

goodquestion

Post by therandelman »

hello again!

i believe, that your RAMM should be sufficient for resolume.
what other specs has your laptop?
resolution and codec of your clips?

external RAID drives ... pretty good question .... i once read about some geeks, who stripped 4 iPod Shuffles into a RAID, so I guess this most be possible as well.... don't know, if it makes sense though.... maybe u should ask that question on vjforums.com

take care

my lappy's pretty decent, its a dell inspiron 9100 with a p4 3.0, 512ram, ati radeon 9700. i typically output 640 x 480 with mostly flash content. its starts to slowdown when theres 2 layers blended with effects. though it varies.

resolutions

Post by therandelman »

it is pretty decent indeed. i wish i could afford an inspiron too... ;)
therefore, i am really suprised, that you are experiencing problems, although u are working with flashfiles only.!
what process resolution are you working with?
what resolution are your flashfiles?
i think, the process resolution should match your footage resolution for best performance...
