Yes - I am using a custom built notebook from unitedmicro.com

It is a p4 3.2 ghz prescott 800fsb, 512 ddr400, 15.4" widescreen, 7200 rpm 60 gb drive, all kinds of plugins and goodies built in to box. radeon 9700 mobility 128.

Works phenominally - it's great. Gets a bit hot sometimes, but when I put it on a cooling tray, all is good.

2xlayers prc 640x480 @ 30-40 fps
3xlayers prc 640x480 @ 20-25 fps
3x layers + effefcts @ 12-20 fps

all clips are 640x480 mjpegA plus 2-3 live cameras.

i had chance to see a machine pc torque - sager 9860-S and I am planning to buy system costs something arround $3800 but as I am tested, it worths each penny...

here are specs:

17" wsxga wide screen
3.8ghz p4 800 mhz fsb, ht- lga 775 cpu
nvida quadro fx go 1400 256mb
2gb 533mhz ddr2 ram
2x 80gb sata hdd (can be configured as raid)
dvd+r dl
gigabit ethernet
802.11g wireless + bluethooth
firewire + usb
7.1 digital out with 4 +1sub mounted speaker
fax modem
card reader
bla bla

performance is really high like a well configured desktop or barebone system

3 layers (each layer effected) + output effect x 3 = something arround 35fps
clips are in various codecs, 640 x 480 or 720 x 576 pal
setup also includes 2 firewire and 2 usb video source

ps: if you want to see ur face, laptop got a video camera installed :D

ps2: the legend was lieberman's computer. http://www.go-l.com sadly they had some problems but the machines are unbelivable...

well, shuttles, still have lots of problems and also, beside the problems, you still have to carry a manitor, keyboard and mouse.

at the moment, we have a shuttle and laptop for gigs and each gig we are carrying following equipment.

mixer
vda
switcher
midi controler
midi keyb
1 or 2 external hdd
couple of video cameras and couple of webcams
a switch for video cameras
usb repeater hub
a dvd player
a vhs player
a preview monitor
cabling
some other stuff

so as you can see we are carrying lots of bags :) we have a roddie-like guy who helps us but it is still a heavy payload...
so why you should carry a shuttle - monitor - keyboard - mouse instead of carrying an item lighter than a shuttle if I will get the same or better performance?

also, as shuttles are depended to electricity, you can not use your computer without setting it properly, u can use your laptop on the road. you need more storage? the 2.5" external hdd cases are not using external power source. road is too long? plug in to vehicles cigarete lighter and you are back online :)

also, in most of the events, no matter we request 2.5m x 1m table, it is very hard to find it, you have to work in very limited spaces so, external monitor, keyboard and a shuttle means more space than a laptop :)

math never fails if you make the calculations right :)
