New Build Advice

Post by disconappete »

Hey all,

I am doing a new build, only its not my money, I need to keep it under $6000 however. Any input would be great!

Has anyone used a DeckLink SDI 4K 12G? Can I use multiple live inputs at once? Say 2 cameras and 2 laptops?

Has anyone used an AMD FirePro W9100? It caught my eye, I used an Eyefinity6 7870 2gb card and it has been great! I wanted to put something in this rig that has some future proofing.

Here is what I have so far-

HARDWARE
Rosewill RSV-R4000 - $89
EVGA SuperNOVA 850 power supply - $160
ASUS TUF Sabertooth 990FX - $220
GSKILL 32gig RAM - $200
AMD FirePro W9100 - $3000
AMD FX 8350 - $100
Arctic Silver 5 Thermal Compound 3 w/ ArctiClean 60 ML Kit – $12
Corsair Hydro Series H80 - $100
(3) SanDisk 480GB $390
WD 1TB 7200RPM Drive - $50
DeckLink SDI 4K 12G - $565

SOFTWARE
Windows -10 Pro - $99
Resolume - $910
MacDrive Pro - $70

CONTROLER
Akai APC40MKll- $200

TOTAL: $5960

I've heard horror stories on using AMD GPU's. The Nvidia GTX 1080ti is a phenomenal card (as is all the 10 series cards).
The new Ryzen CPU's are really killing it from what I've been hearing (and not killing your wallet).

I have never had any issues with AMD cards, I have been using an HD7970 Eyefinity 6 card for 4 or 5 years and never crashed a show or anything weird.

Both of those cards you mentioned bench really well tho....

I'm currently spec'ing out a build for a client and just ran across the Threadripper's benchmarks next to an i9, for the price, I'm really loving AMD right now (have been an intel user since 1997, so this is new territory for me haha)

I was reading in another thread that DeckLink cards can be used as I/Os, so one could get a beefy GPU with a few outs and do all the processing on the GPU and output SDI through the DeckLink card? Is this accurate? It was suggested that the SDI I/Os are switchable, so one could have a couple camera inputs and use the rest as outputs to displays?

That is correct, but if you are trying to use multi out's from the BM card to make one solid image, you will probably have some tearing.

Why is that? Inconsistent frame rate on the outputs? Would you be able to do it with two cards and a black burst generator for the reference ins?

Due to the inability to Gen Lock the SDI outputs but you can always manually adjust the delay for each output up to 100ms to make up the difference.

No because Arena doesn't let you use a Black Burst master signal in the advanced output to Gen Lock your SDI outputs.

^ I'd refer to anything Oaktown has to say when it comes to Genlock and SDI signal paths. He's the man!

Hmm so since Resolume doesn't recognize the reference in on the cards is there no point in even setting up a tri/black sync? The only way to get a good blend is manually adjusting each time?
