Changing to SSD in my MSI GT75 Titan

I'm planning on changing the mechanical drive in my laptop to a SSD since it bottle-necking the whole rig. Will pretty much any SSD do just fine or should i aim for those high end 4000+/4000+ ones?
I have only been looking at internals. But will a external do the trick aswell?
