PNG and Jpeg are supported, use PNG files if you want to use Transparency. GIF is a bit outdated.

You probably can load a sequence/stack of .png or .jpg files instead of an animated .gif maybe? (didn't try that myself in Avenue, but it was possible in res 2.41)

What is the difference between an animated .gif and a clip anyway? (I know the difference, but what are you trying to achieve?)

If you use PNG in losless mode the image quality will be the same as BMP.
We don't support animated GIFS's and loading multiple pictures in one clip is not possible a.t.m.
