No Output to Second Screen
Unfortunately this sometimes happens with Nvidia graphics cards on Windows. This is what you need to do to get it working: Close Resolume 3 if running, then open NVIDIA control panel and go to 3D Settings->Manage 3D settings. Then on the Global settings tab change the 'Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration' setting to 'Compatibility performance mode' and choose apply. More info and screenshots on the forum.
I have bought a new computer, how do it transfer my license?
You do not have to transfer your license, just enter the serial again on your new computer or after you have reinstalled. You can also use your serial on both Mac and PC.
I want to buy Resolume 3 for Mac
A Resolume 3 serial works on both Mac and PC. You can always re-install your operating system or switch from PC to Mac or buy a new computer and enter your serial again.
Help! My videos do not play in Resolume.
Resolume is a bit picky about the video and audio files that it plays because not all formats and compression types are suitable for VJ-ing. See the next FAQ on how to prepare your media.
What video format and codec is the best?
If you want (by far) the best performance on Mac and PC you should use our DXV Codec, it's free and if you installed Resolume 3 it's already installed on your computer.
alternatively, on the PC you can use .avi files with the PICvideo M-JPEG codec or the Indeo 5.1 codec with every frame as a keyframe at 100% quality.
On the Mac you can use .mov files with the Photo JPEG codec at 85% quality.
We recommend rendering audio to a seperate .wav file, no compression, 16 Bit 44.100 kHz PCM data.
See the Preparing Media chapter in the manual for more details.
What is the best laptop for Resolume 3?
Difficult to answer, but we develop Resolume 3 on MacBooks Pro and they are excellent laptops for Resolume 3. Because new PC laptops come with Vista installed we actually recommend a MacBook Pro and run Mac OSX if you are buying a new laptop. Vista is unfortunately a lot slower than Windows XP Pro.
What is the best hard drive for Resolume 3?
The faster the better, we use 10.000 RPM Western Digital VelociRaptor drives because they are very fast yet surprisingly affordable. The best thing to do is buy two and put them in a RAID0 configuration.
In a laptop you should try to use the fastest internal drives available: 7200 RPM. We use WD Scorpio Black 7200 RPM in our laptops.
Do not connect an external hard drive via USB! Use at least FireWire 800 but preferably eSATA. We use LaCie D2 Quadra drives connected to the laptop via an eSATA ExpressCard 34.
What is the best video card (GPU) for Resolume 3?
All video rendering is done with openGL on the video card in Resolume 3 so it is a lot more important to have a fast one than for Resolume 2. But it is not necessary to break you entire budget on a video card, a basic ATI Radeon HD 2600 (or later) or nVidia GeForce 8600 (or later) will do just fine.
In a laptop you should look for a dedicated GPU that does not share the RAM. Resolume 3 does not work on the integrated Intel graphics processors you find in many (cheap) laptops.
We use ATI/AMD GPUs mostly because with the excellent Omega drivers you get easy access to options like overscan and PAL/NTSC output resolutions on the TV-Out.
Make sure the video card has at least two outputs and a TV-Out.
