Resolution? - 640 x 480 or 640 x 360

So i'm a bit confused over what resolution i should be using. (For now i'm using low resolution because i can't afford to purchase all HD).

I've been using the default 640 x 480 as i've been learning my way through Resolume.

Over the past year i've gathered a fair few clips and scaled them down or up depending on what size they were originally.

I'm wondering now whether to wipe my DXV Libary and replace it with just one resolution format. (Mpeg Streamclip Batch ftw).

640 x 360 makes the most sense for me as its a common aspect ration that translates well into HD.
However Resolume's native 640 x 480 threw me off a bit.... is it better for projecting or?

Can someone give me some info on this subject?

640x480 is 4x3 whereas 640x360 is 16x9 so it all depends on what kind of output you're using your composition with. There is no one-size fits all solution, but I would say these days, 1024x768 (4x3) and 1280x720 (16x9) are much more prevalent than these 640x so I would tend to push you towards using higher resolution comps.

Keep in mind you can always downsample, scale up but you can't upsample low-rez media so once you reduce the resolution of media and toss the high rez one, it's gone forever! So you're better off keeping high rez media and scaling down.

I've kept all the original files and made a separate DXV folder so that's good news.
I reckon I go the 1280 route....

Thanks for the reply :).
