Advice with Recording BPM Synced Footage

Post by MarkRM »

Hi all.

I've got a bunch of clips that are all synced tightly to my BPM and am essentially using the Columns in Resolume like Scenes in Ableton, where I'm triggering an entire Column at the start of a bar using Resolume's Beat Snap mode.

I'm running a pretty old MacBook Pro and am keen to bounce out compiled footage/scenes into single DXV files to pull back in (essentially 'mixing down' to pull back into Resolume). The problem I'm having with this approach is that Resolume's Record mode doesn't itself seem to have have any Beat Snap options - it just runs loose. So unlike in something like Bitwig where you can put the program into a kind of 'Record Standby' before triggering it by starting a Scene (so it's recording is synced tightly to music measure), I'm unable to record stuff in Resolume exactly to bar.

Am I missing something here? If the Record mode is decoupled completely from the BPM of the Composition are there any workarounds any one would suggest when Recording BPM synced footage to pull back in to my project?

(I know I can render the clips individually but I'm wanting to Record/consolidate a bunch of clips into one.)

Thanks!

Start recording before starting your clips, then you can cut the recording right in Resolume, and render that to the final file. https://resolume.com/support/en/clip-renderer

Thanks Zoltán! Yeah, that's pretty much what I've been doing. I was wondering if there was a more direct way of accomplishing it, being more used to clip-based DAWs. But that's an ok workaround.

Actually, one question I do have ... a quick Google search suggests that you can quickly set clip in and out points based on where the playhead currently is in a clip the 'I' and 'O' keys. But those don't seem to work for me - 'I' just triggers a slot on Layer 1, for example. Any kind of keyboard shortcut tips that make this kind of precise clip editing more painless would be appreciated!
