That's great. I have been after an effect like this for ages!

If it had an option to adjust the softness (so it can have a hard edge) it would be perfect...

I tried this plugin on flash text files and it works great but when I use it on a video / jpeg with white words on black it does nothing. Is that because it requires the background to be alpha?

Yup. You can use it with video DXV+alpha encoded or PNGs with alpha though.

You can also use the Auto Mask plugin to create an alpha channel for you, it's not perfect but with the right footage it actually works quite well.

Automask works a treat! I hadn't noticed that plugin before...
