bitrate gets lower with Alley converting

Post by p8guitar »

I recorded some FFGL 1.5 sources in Arena 6, so that I can use them in Arena 7.
The recordings are MPEG-4 Quicktime movies with JPEG format, I think this is default and cannot be changed. When I trim these movies with Alley and save with Motion JPG codec, of course the size of the file gets smaller because the movie is shorter, but the bitrate gets considerably smaller, too! To test this I converted a movie without trimming and the bitrate was reduced from 154 Mb/s to 87,1 Mb/s.
MediaInfo shows me that both files have JPEG format (Codec-ID: jpeg) and everything is the same, except the converted file shows the information "chroma subsampling: 4:2:2" and the original file doesn't show this. Is this normal?

Might be the codec? Why not convert them to dxv3?

The name of the codec ID is both "jpg", so I thought it is the same. But apparently there is a difference?

When I convert to DXV, the bitrate (and file size) is almost twice as big, which is way too much in this case.
