MIDI mapping issues

Post by saikoman »

I have a BCR 2000 MIDI controller and I haven't been able to mapp the clip/layer properties the way I want. Every time I try to mapp the speed, opacity or scale (just to mention a few) to all the 3 layers, it overrides a previous MIDI mapping. I already checked the manual but there is little information for MIDI mapping, also I tried to change the focus from layer to deck, but only Layer 1 is available for mapping. Is there any other way to do the MIDI mapping?

Thanks for your help!

Well BCR 2000 is a great controller! - I also use one next to a Korg NanoKontrol ;)

First you should know that there are some issues for per layer mappings in the current version (3.1.3). see viewtopic.php?t=5632
Every time I try to mapp the speed, opacity or scale (just to mention a few) to all the 3 layers, it overrides a previous MIDI mapping.
Not sure if it's related to your problem, but try to click with the mouse on the item you want to map, then push the button/controller on your BCR2000, and then again click on the same item in Resolume. On my computer the correct MIDI note/controller is only shown if I click again. I guess it does not make any operational difference, but it's confusing.
but only Layer 1 is available for mapping
I think there has to be one clip (running?) at each layer you want to map, otherwise you cannot select it. To select another layer click on the per layer preview (it has no color overlay)
Is there any other way to do the MIDI mapping?
You could edit the XML file, but I would not recommend this. It's even more confusing!

But a way to manually change/edit the mapping without sending MIDI is missing! For example a drop down box containing all noted/controllers and a way to change the MIDI channel.
For now I would wait for the next release which has been announce for mid April. ;)

Hi, I'm having problems mapping my BCR2000, too.

I've got the newer version of avenue (3.2.0), and i'm finding that particularly with the dashboard controllers for clip parameters (properties or effects), the mapping I've set seems to keep getting lost -the controllers don't work and when i check the mapping the controller assignments i've made are gone.
They sometimes work for a while, but then all too frequently they randomly disappear -and not all at the same time.
Sometimes in mapping mode the assigned controller numbers are still there when one layer is selected, but not when another layer is selected -and this is with the mapping focus always on "deck", not "layer"! (strange)

It also seems to be happening with the layer clear (X) buttons with the BCR buttons i've assigned to them.

Is it the BCR or is it Resolume???
It seems like it's both!

Does anybody have a theory on this?
Cheers!

Well, my theory is that the BCR is a cheap plastic piece of $#!(, but that beside the point ;)

As long as it's sending the correct midi data, which it apparently is, Resolume shouldn't lose the mapping. We do have several BCRs on hand for testing, so could you maybe provide some steps for how we could recreate this?

Hey Joris,

Thanks for your response.

I'll try experimenting with it some more before you need to go to the trouble of testing it out for me.
Plus, i'll wait a little while to see if anyone else says they're having the same problems...

The controls I'm having particular trouble with are the clip parameter dashboard controls.
I'll explain how i'm using them in case there's something wrong with the way i'm working:

I'm mainly using 3 layers, and in order to be able to adjust clip parameters for whichever clips are playing in each of the layers, i've assigned any 2 clip parameters to 2 different dashboard controls depending on which layer the clip is in.
So, if a clip is in layer 1 i'm assigning 2 parameters to link 1 and link 2.
If a clip is in layer 2, i'm assigning 2 parameters to link 3 and link 4.
If a clip is in layer 3, i'm assigning 2 parameters to link 5 and link 6.

Then, i'm going into midi mapping with the focus on "deck", and assigning those dashboard controls to 6 different midi controllers so that i can control 2 parameters for each clip whenever that clip is playing in its corresponding layer.

Those are the controls i've been having trouble with, cos they only seem to work for a while and then the mapping seems to disappear.
(It's also happening with the layer clear (X) buttons).
All the other controls are mapping fine.

Could it be that the way i'm assigning those controllers is wrong?

Cheers,
Suzybee ;)

Hello again,

So the good news is that my midi problem was my fault!!!

I mis-took the clip dashboard mapping to be universal, not particular to the specific clip selected.
So i thought that once you assigned a midi controller to a dashboard link, it would be the same for all clips which had parameters assigned to that link.
I didn't realize that you need to assign the midi mapping for the dashboard for each specific clip.
This is much better because it allows for much more specific mapping.

If i'd experimented in a more logical way i would've realised it sooner, but being an arty-type my brain bumbles about rather randomly!

Thanks for your help Joris, and thankfully problem sorted!
