video input on macbookpro 2012

Post by denkertje »

Does anyone have a good solution to use my canon HV20 camera as an input source in resolume (on a MacBook Pro 2012), but over a distance of at least 20 meters? It works fine with a short firewire cable and a firewire to mini-display port converter. But dont think firewire cables that long exist or would work. Would really like to keep the HD definition the firewire cable gives.

My macbook has a hdmi port(guess only out?)
2 diplay ports ( one of them a will use as an output to the beamer)
2 usb 3.0 ports

Anyone an idea?

hi,
you can use the analog output of the cam and capture the SD signal with http://www.blackmagicdesign.com/products/intensity/

Thanks, that would be something. Still looking if I can find a HD solution.
The camera also has HDMI out and I did find a long enough HMDMI calble this should also work with the black magic intensity (extreme or thunderbolt) right?

Do you know if using one thunderbolt port as an input will interfere with using the other one as an output ?(my macbookpro has 2 thunderbolt ports)

hi,
wiki says HDMI cables work only till 15 meters.... there are also 20m cables but i dont kow if it works.
for a longer distance you should use an extender over cat5 cable.

i dont know if thunderbold works as an input.

well, thunderbolt works as both actually - input and output. an intensity has inputs and outputs :geek: I have an intensity extreme on one thunderbolt port and a triplehead2go on the other one. works plug and play. I had a gopro hero2 captured via an HDMI cable, 3 meter long, at 720p.
