I think I have to agree, there currently is no way to do this without making masks.

without distorting the internal image, you're correct, using what I posted above you can do it fairly well with square/rectangle objects

even with making a png mask of the internal image I want, I can't get resolume to key a clip into it properly

needs to be a layer output mask option!
