Slice not as expected

Post by djtommye »

I'm running Resolume on a Macbook Pro with the Matrox TripleHead2Go DP video interface.
I will be connecting two projectors (4:3) to the TH2GO.

I'm working on a music video for a production that will span across the two screens, so I am creating two separate videos 640x480 and would stack them in the same column in Resolume, so I can fire them both at the same time. (There are some tricky cues in the video and it needs to be consistent across performances, which is why I'm rendering them and then playing them in Resolume).

From what I've read, it appears that I would create two slices and add them to the screen, and assign a separate layer to each slice, so that Layer 1 plays ONLY on slice 1 (left projector), and Layer 2 plays ONLY on slice 2 (right projector). (I'll then create two more composition slices that are full screen for on-the-fly programming.)

When I go into Advanced Setup, I see the TH2GO display listed at the full 3x width (3072 x 768). However the screen template in Advanced Setup does not appear to maintain that same proportion. It still looks more 4:3. And, when I create slices, they do not use the same 3072x768 pixel space, but appear full-screen at 640x480.

So I created two slices 213x160 (since I'm only using 2/3 of the TH2GO) output), and put then side-by-side on the screen, assigning Layer 1 to the first slice and Layer 2 to the second.

However, when I play any loops, they are full screen, not playing within their designated slice. I don't have anything plugged into the TH2GO, so I tried this on my PC with a secondary monitor. The slices cover the entire screen, with their media overlapping. This is not what I'm looking for. If I enable to show the layer & slice, they overlap in the center of the screen.

I've read the manual and searched through the forums and it looks like I should be able to do this, but I'm missing something I suppose.

I'm attaching a screen capture showing the settings. On Layer 1, I have a fireworks video playing, and on layer 2 it's a ambient blue. Looking at the output on the left, you'll see that they are overlapping whereas the Advanced Setup shows them side-by-side.

Thank you in advance. This is for an event this weekend, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

you will not be able to do that this way in avenue.

what you can do is double your composition width, then position layer 1 to the left side, layer 2 to the right side, and set the output to your th2go full screen, you don't need the advanced out for this.
edit: or just render your left-and right video into one 2*wide.

if you only need 2 outputs, then set the th2go's resolution accordingly to 2 screens with 2048x768 res., or else the 1280x480 composition will stretch across the th2go's 3 outputs, what you don't want.

Awesome. THANK YOU!! I'll give that a shot...

Would you recommend that I render the videos 640x480 or 1024x768? (I would think the higher res, but saw alot of 640x480 references so I played it safe)

if your computer can handle playing a 2048x768 resolution composition then using that (projectors native)resolution will give you far better results.
you could also render the videos into one 2048x768 file. so resolume has one layer less to render.

I highly suggest rendering one video that is 2048x768. If done in DXV even an older computer can handle it. The main reason I suggest that is to ensure both videos are perfectly in sync. Ive used a column trigger in the past to fire off three clips at the same time and they didnt stay in sync for the show.
