SMPTE Jumping with inputs set the same

Post by ianmcdan »

Using 6.1.1 on High Sierra 10.13.6.
I'm taking in SMPTE via Focusrite 18i8 .. When both SMPTE input 1 and 2 are set to the same input channel, it jumps all over the place. When I take SMPTE input 2 to anything else, it all settles down to where it should be. This seems to only be happening in higher timecode ranges... like 19:00:00:00 and above.

Was running the same on both SMPTE inputs in case I accidentally chose the the wrong input during show.

Thoughts?

What's the source of the SMPTE signal exactly?

It was coming from the music director on stage.

For testing proposes... here is a link to one of the time code files that caused the issues.

Works just fine as long as you’re not sending it to both SMPTE 1 and SMPTE 2 at the same time through the same physical input.

You mean if you choose SMPTE input to drive your clips?

I'm asking because this sounds a bit like the stuttering that occurs when the SMPTE is played back from Ableton and the Ableton track is set to warp to something other that re-pitch. That distorts the SMPTE signal, but if it's only a small distortion/speed change, then you might only see the glitches with a higher TC.
