Processing times on intel 12th gen and DDR 5

Post by Bassindaniel »

Hello boys and girls!

Has anyone already experienced Resolume workflow on intel 12th gen and DDR 5?

Actually I’m mostly curious about capture live sources latency times.

Many thanks.

I couldn't tell any difference between 7-8 gen, 8-9gen, 9-10 gen, and 10-11gen (Currently on 11). Following that pattern I wouldn't expect much difference. Is there something happening on the 12th gen CPU's that would affect this? It's your A/D converters that take time to process. My current capture devices are between 4-7 frames. I don't think there's getting much better than that unless the entire process is re-invented.

The only difference is that 12th gen supports DDR5.

DDR 5 have much faster speeds. That’s the only reason.

Gotcha. I wouldn't expect to notice any real improvements tbh. Memory helps in deck changes, loading thumbnails and some video FX. you might notice quicker deck changes, but in terms of video playback, your GPU does most of the heavy lifting there.
