Maximum clip number or hours? Clips are black, plenty of RAM......

Post by manymanyhaha »

Large project, several hours of clips that are randomly being auto-piloted. 64 gigs of RAM, less than 24 gigs are being used right now.

Mass imported a ton of clips I made, hundreds of them, into different layers. Towards the end of each layer, quite a few of the clips are completely black. Reimport one of these, shows up fine. Reimport another, shows up fine. Reimport all of them one by one, show up fine. Restart the next day, all the same clips are back to black.

So why? It's not a memory issue. Fast SSD hard drives. AMD 3900 laptop, fast CPU currently at 15% usage. GTX 1650 currently running at about 60%. Love the results of what I'm getting, just wish all of these clips would show up.

Is there a maximum that Resolume will do even before system resources are used up?

Operating systems have limits on how many concurrent files an app can open.
Splitting up the files to more decks could help ;)

Does it always happen with specific files?
DXV files?

Sorry, was out in the forest all weekend projecting my resolume show onto a tent top!

Mp4's, trying to keep the file sizes small.

It's probably about 1500 clips. In 2023, we can't have that many available? This is a set and forget show, I'm not "VJing"....

1500 files which need to be open at the same time, sounds like a lot. Both file handle and memory usage wise.
Mp4 can cause issues too.

Try splitting up the clips to two decks, and/or convert to DXV.

I have plenty of memory, not coming anywhere close to maxing out.

i just converted a couple with Alley and is this right? I'm trimming a third off and the file size is over 30x the original? How is it possible that these file sizes could be better?

50 gb x 30= 1.5 tb. I don't have that type of space......

Would it actually be able to handle 1.5tb better than 50gb? That's totally counterintuitive....

Yes, DXV is big compared to h264.
DXV is a format which is really easy to decode on the GPU, so your CPU doesn't need to work that hard. SSDs are pretty fast, so file sizes are not that big of an issue now, like they were in the HDD times.
