NEWBIE ISSUE ON MAPPING OUTPUT IN LED SETUP - please help :/

Post by scry14 »

Dear friends,
I'm having a vj live on june 17th in a space in Tokyo (BLACKBOX) that have a 360 LED installation - The issue is that they sent me a grid to export my videos but i'm pretty new in the field and i very much don't understand how i should process my clip to fit this.
If anyone can help me that would be infinitely awesome as i'm getting very nervous.
I join for you the grid that depicts how i should prepare my clips, but even if i search online and if i searched on resolume support in order to understand the output mapping, i'm still lost....
I thank you so much in advance for any help.

All my base clips are FHD 1920x1080.

Thank you all and have a nice day.

That's mega rude that no one answered to me. Solidarity is not in your agenda i guess.

I find it "mega rude" that people take jobs that they are not "ready for yet". Tossing attitude around won't get you very far in this industry ;)

Your best bet is to find a LOCAL friend who knows what they are doing and ask nicely to have them show you as well.
If you don't have any available to you and you have the time to watch and learn, here are some great resources available to you.
(Did you know there's an entire support section that documents how all of this can be done, and it's even located on the same website you posted for help on?) https://resolume.com/support

Start with this one:
https://resolume.com/support/en/advanced-output
Then this one:
https://resolume.com/support/en/screens
Then this one:
https://resolume.com/support/en/input-selection
Then this one:
https://resolume.com/support/en/output-transformation
Followed up with this one:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4ruvVcdXhY

Take the time to learn from the information in these links, spend a few hours with an external monitor or tv at home and you should be able to get it figured out.

Looking at your pixel map, it seems pretty straight forward (and not 360 ;) )
In advanced output I would create your 4 output slices to match the pixel map, then under the input section I would match what the output section looks like (input and output 4 slices should be identical)
Then throw in a slice transform on your composition and set it to mask mode. from there, just resize your content (or composition transform for a global scale and translation) to make it look right. that will get you a basic full stage view to fit your content. There are a ton of other creative mappings you could do as well, but let's stick to basics for now until you understand those then we can grow from that baseline level :)

Good luck on your show and your journey, and remember, you will catch more flies with honey than with vinegar.

Dear Arvol, thanks so much for coming back to me with such a detailed answer. I actually wrote too early on my process in this forum, as i thougt the community was similar to the CGI one (i work in 3D) which is very willing to help without judgment. My bad as the rules are not the same here.
Since the post i've spent most of my time studying the question, and discovering your answer will help me even more.
Thanks again very much.
Best wishes

All good. Sorry it took so long for you to get a reply, just note, some of us haven't been home for more than 3 week this year... And on top of that, some of us also work 16 hour days for weeks at a time, so we try to get back asap but sometimes we're in the middle of nowhere with no internet and we much rather take the 8 hours we get off a day to eat and maybe sleep ;) lol
LMK if you have anymore questions about your setup. Have you had any luck with previewing your setup on a tv/monitor? is using slice transform making sense to you? (for a quick additional mapping style, you could change your slice transform mode from "mask" to "fill")
