3 questions for a VJ wizard challenge :)

Post by vj8k3 »

can I use a steam deck to control Resolume?
-I want an excuse to buy one anyway
-has anyone seen anyone use this?

Can you set multiple banks of effects or clips to the buttons on the APC 40 II?
-I want to press a button and I have an entire new bank of clips or midi triggers. like i Use all the white light up buttons as effects and that bank of 40 gets stale

With screen blending (using multiple projectors to make one image) can you set the projectors up a different angles and heights and still make it look like one complete image?
-pretty sure this is a no- also dont want to mess around with keystoneing much- idea is to use a handful of junk projectors to make something large and cool.

bonus: anyone have a good video to explain setting multiple screens in advance output so do layers or projection mapping?
-had a gig this weekend where I had to map a shape then also have the eyes be a different layer- I could map the shape but had a hard time figuring out how to make another shape layer ontop of that- and also couldn't figure out how to quickly mix between something like that

thanks!

If you can run a browser on your steam deck, the REST API should help controlling Resolume https://resolume.com/support/en/restapi

Have a look at the Midi Shortcuts support page https://resolume.com/support/en/midi-shortcuts
To be able to use the buttons again, I'd switch to another deck and use by position shortcuts.
The paging like what you might be used to from Ableton is not availabel in Resolume at this time.

Projector blending starts with aligning the projectors physically as accurately as possible. If they have an overlap, you can make a blend with them. Flast projection surfaces are very recommended.
In projector software keystone is pretty much the same as if you'd keystone in Resolume, so switch that off.
Lens shift is your friend.

Once the blend is set up in the advanced output, you can treat it as "one screen".

Slice Transform is a great tool to have content positioned. Layer to slice routing can be useful too.
