Only they need to be in a folder, and they have to be named sequentially.
But this will make 1 video with 1 image as 1 frame, 30 images will be 30 frames in this video.
If you'd like to do a slideshow, with fading and timing options, individual files is what you're looking for, like in Arvol's video.
I would love a combination of both that provides easy handling and accurate cuts in one.
