Hi Dan,

sorry if my Video Switchboard post did sound cheeky so I feel I need to come clean about a few things:

1 we are not "a company" and it's the first time someone ever accused me of spaming for financial gain. The switchboard is not for sale and anybody is welcome to take my ideas further ( see digitalcow.net). I just thought I'd add to the discussion, for once I find a forum that deals with things I'm concerned with. If I had known I would have abstained.

2 I must admit that i am not familiar with Resolume. The Video Switchboard was designed to be used with another MIDI visual software (I won't put names here) Which doesn't require keeping a finger on a key either.
However I was brushing over the issue of "tactile feedback" which differenciates many musical instruments from controllers:
it's good to feel what's been triggered without having to keep an eye on the buttons. I just think a combination of switches and buttons would make sense for many VJing styles.

3 I heard Resolume is a kick-ass software and i'm organising an audiovisual event in Glasgow soon for which the main act uses resolume to the full and i'm looking forward to it. I didn't expect to find poeple on this forum to be so protective.

4 I've checked out the photos of your controller: looks very good, although quite different from ours. hardware controllers are the future in their variety nobody's fighting for market domination here.

5 thanks Jim for sticking up for us.

ciao

Dan-

I'm assuming that you've configured the dm2 to work with resolume, so is there any chance on getting a DM2MIDI configuration file posted?

thanks!

Sorry for coming on so strong David - I assumed the switchbox was for sale since you were 'selling' it so strongly in your post and implying that it would be good for use with resolume...

My usual reaction to apparent spam is to challenge it- sorry that your well intentioned post got my harsh reaction. Please don't let me put you off posting. I'm only one lone nutter ;)

If you want to discuss more general, non resolume specific visuals stuff then vjforums.com is a good place to do it - loads of people there will be interested in your controller ideas.

I've now had a look at your sites and your stuff is well interesting - respect for building your own controller.

I'm not sure I'd want a switchbox style controller for Resolume though - it doesn't work in a clip on/off way like VJamm/Arkaos/Midivid so something with buttons and sliders would be more useful than something with switches.

The biggest problem I can see with moving away from midi keyboards is velocity sensitivity - we use velocity on our keyboards for some things and wouldn't really want to be without it. I'm guessing that velocity sensitive buttons are probably hard to find/build.

We're working on configuring the DM2 for resolume at the moment (still deciding how we want everything to work)

We'll definitely post the .dm2 when we are done (although it will be specifically done to work well with the midi keyboard and sliders that we already use)

I noticed that someone built his own midi box and resolume is doing the same, what i'm curious about is what controllers (as in chips) do you need to get started, i cant find anything on the web on this..
