i agree, i built an external hd 120gb, 8mb cache firewire and usb2 for about £150.
i just bought the case from
http://www.novatech.co.uk/novatech/Stor ... z1p0s0n0m0
and then added a drive from scan.co.uk (always look in the today only deals)
makes transfering data from my desktop(rendering) to lappy a breeze

you know, when i first looked at the western digital 250GB drive, and noticed that it was one of their IDE drives hooked to a USB converter, i wondered if it was possible to build one. thanks, jim, for pointing out how it can be done!

hi meta,
you've got standard kits for building an external hd...
so i gues building one wouldn't be that difficult.
good luck

yeah, i did some research and discovered a version for 3.5" IDE drives (i have a 120 GB western dig. that's dying for a cool home):
http://www.startech.com/ststore/itemdet ... opbara.htm
i saw it on reseller sites for as low as $45 US, but it's on backorder everywhere until the first week of december.

I build an external firewire HD with an extrenal OEM firewire/usb2 case from nowthatsit.nl and a 120 gig western digital caviar special edition (8mb cache / 7200 rpm) disk. This improved the performance of resolume on my dell inspirion 8200 significantly. Costs: euro 190,50
