Maybe an all-in-one solution (for about $8000) - a MIDI keyboard with built-in PC, 15" monitor, and qwerty keyboard, plus a few dozen sliders and buttons: http://www.openlabs.com/neko64.php
Its looks great that keyboard, we had this discussion on vjf, with the view that looks great, but lack video support as pc is inbuilt, and also holds worries as to upgrade potential.
If I bought it and find it out of date within 6 months, I'd be gutted
