Mapping a range of MIDI notes to one parameter

Has anyone ever tried to map a range of MIDI notes so that the different notes are mapped to values between 0-1?
Example, a bass line would be mapped to a dashboard dial controlling Y position on a clip... a low note = low position and high note = high position.
I'm trying this with midiNotesToCC, then the Max4Live Parameter Forwarder, but no worky. Perhaps I don't have midiNotesToCC configured correctly... or maybe there's a better way...
The Parameter Forwarder does work from Live to Avenue so that part is OK.
