So,
to reproduce this make a new composition,
import a dxv or png with alpha, notice the alpha type in clip settings : premultiplied, clip looks as premultiplied.
Save
Reopen, now the clip alpha type is straight. looks straight.
Click on the alha type select straight. clip still looks straight.( actually you can skip this step the result is the same)
Save, Reopen.
Now the clips alpha type is straight but looks premultiplied.
Select straight, looks premultiplied.
Select premultiplied, looks premultiplied.
Select straight, looks straight.
Select type premultiplied, save reopen,
Clip alpha type is premultiplied, looks premultiplied. and this stays on next save/reopen.
just spent 3 hours figuring out why I had dull images in a show.
First I thought that it was because, the clip I had was Animation Codec - in 4.1.8 it reports as Animation without the alpha type setting.
in 4.1.10 it reports as DXV with alpha type setting available.
I don't know if this is intentional, (the codec reporting part), but it surely confused me for a while.
Edit:
just tested versions down to 4.1.7, the same alpha type bug exists in every version.
