If the native resolution of my projector is 800x600 does it make any sense to me to output in 1920x1080 or 1280x720? Am I right to think that image quality will be the same whether is 800x600 or higher? and I will only consume more RAM if I use a higher resolution?

You're absolutely right, your projector can't give you more than the native resolution in terms of pixels so to get 16:9 format out of your projector you're better off creating an 800x450 comp and placing it in your 800x600 output.

But that being said, most projector have onboard scaling so you should be able to send HD (1920x1080 or 1280x720) but chances are you won't be able to do that using DVI or VGA so you'll probably will have to use a YPbPr analog component video signal which would require to use converters so 800x450 might be your best option.

I have an Acer X110p (http://www.acerdirect.co.uk/Acer_X110P_ ... ersion.asp) and I can output HD and I've been doing that for my gigs but if there is no advantage in terms of image quality then I shouldn't bother.

So even the onboard scaling means nothing in terms of image quality? is that just a feature to allow you to output a HD signal (resolution size) but it will not actually output in HD quality?

So is it better if I render all my video files to 800x450 size and I will gain on processing power?

But to answer your question, yes you're always better off using your projector's native resolution. 800x450 will be cleaner than scaling 1920x1080 down to 800x450 since you decide what you're projecting rather than having your scaling unit decide for you (projector, folsom pro, resolume....). Keep in mind that you can always scale your media directly in a clip

A couple other perks:

• - that gives you control on where the 800x450 is located on the screen since you can move the slice up and down in the Advanced Screen Set whereas the onboard scaler will place it in the center of the screen.
  - better Fps
