I was beaten up by Arena this weekend

I didn“t mean that Arena was just violent on me. Perhaps, I may have asked for it. But it was so disappointing...
I was ready to run my new dell i7 8gb 2gb ati radeon 480gb ssd notebook with Arena. I expected no difficulties on running Arena.
After a few benchmarks tests, I decided to setup a full hd 1920x1080 composition. So all my clips were previously pre rendered to that format. All set, go!
In my benchmark test I could easily run up to 5 full HD layers at 30 fps. During my gig, 3 layers and I was already below 30fps. Weird. No effects, just blending modes and aphas. Sometimes, one video input.
Changing decks was the worst part of it. Is it better to have a greater number of decks with a minimum number of clips on it, or just a few decks with 30 / 40 clips on it?
There was nothing I could do about it and I did pray for the night to end the sooner the better.
