Hi,
i was wondering how this could be done.
I am trying to realize a project with multiple surfaces.
How can I have one video clip be projected randomly at different times across each surface ?
Kind of like in this video?
I just can't figure it out

Hi egvisuals,
there are two ways you can do this.
1.
A bit of assiduity work in AfterFX paired with Resolume Arena.
You have to pre-produce a clip containing as many squares as you want to project on. With a bit of AfterFX knowledge it's getting easier to create a random flashing look in your clip. With Resolume Arena or something comparable you map your content on to your physical squares. Press Play!
If you are a bit lazy like I am

you can pre-produce a clip with for example 10 squares and double map them randomly spreaded over your surface.
2.
You can also do this just using Resolume Arena.
Create the same count of layers as you have physical squares. Build your scene inside the composition or use the layer routing to slice function. Map your scene onto your physical surface. Activate the Resolume auto-pilot for each layer. Place some pics or clips in every layer and play around with blendtimes and content duration.
For the "only Resolume solution" you can also do it the lazy way and just use a small amount of layers.

Thanks for the reply.
I already thought of option 1. But my After Effects skills are not that great.
Option 2 could be a solution. But I am looking at 80+ surfaces. That means there would be more than 80 Layers.
Really seems like a lot to me.
Is there a way how you could have 2 or 3 layers playing and have them randomly routed to diffrent output surfaces?
For example 5 surfaces at the same time playing layer 1, 5 playing layer 2 and 5 playing layer 3 and have those randomly changing with the other surfaces?

you did missread something... 80+ SLICES not 80+ Layers
Slices ( advanced output menu / Arena only)
The kind of randomness is quite low with ~3 Layers just try around.... and dont miss the Copy Slice Option to save some time...

You can also use several layers of layer router clips to add random parameters to the same media without overloading the system by using the autopilot.
So for instance you could have three layers of media and 9 layers of routers (3 layer routers per media layer) with various parameters animated resulting in 9 different effect in your slices with only 3 types of medias.

Lazy, lazier, laziest.
Using 2 layers, Videowall, Lines, LoRez and 50 Mask blend mode.
Tweak the Lines parameters to get different 'chasers'.

I have used also used the video wall effect before to do something similar.
The great thing about it is that you can set the border thickness, how random the image is distributed across the squares and brightness variation between squares.
I seem to remember that the aspect ratio of the individual squares is based on the image or layer size that the effect is applied to. I think I got round this by using it as an effect clip and adjusted the size of that.
I pictures above shows using the effect (not the best photo) and then the surface can also be used without the effect
