you can do that by selecting multiple clips with Shift+click, then copy(cut), paste.

cut and paste is move,

do you mean drag and move with mouse?

Keep in mind that if you select more than one clip, it will paste the selection based on the lower left most of the grid you selected even if that clip is empty.

So for instance if you select L1,C2 and L2, C1, it will be based on L1,C1 so if you select L3,C5, it will paste in L3,C6 and L4,C5 and it will add layers and columns as needed.

You can also cut and paste between decks and even compositions if you close one and open another.
