I am looking for a new laptop, and it seems that I ( a Windows user) am seriously thinking about buying a macbook pro. I use firewire devices, and windows laptops with firewire or expresscard slot are hard to get new, and if even possible they come at a price as high as a mac.
I would like the new laptop to handle resolume well, so it is the big question for me if it is worth to buy the mbp with the discrete graphic or would the new Iris 6100 (or the older 5200 which is in the 15" retina) have similar performance. Gaming is not relevant for me.
On paper the iris 6100 is capable to drive 2 external 4k displays, that would be an awesome portable configuration with 2x datapath X4 to drive 8 fullHD outputs.

so any experience?

edit: anything regarding this would be useful even if not particularly about macbook pro setup.
So if you have a pc with the 4th or 5th gen. intel i5 or i7 with integrated graphics 5000/6000 series, you could run a resolume benchmark.

If you are planning to use Resolume with your MBP and do any work with it, the Iris integrated GPU doesn't have what it takes so get the model with the Nvidia GT750M.

Check out the benchmark spreadsheet, one result with the Iris Pro and they were only able to get 3 HD layers before dropping below 30fps.

yes, the current 15" model has the integrated Intel Iris 5200 Pro.
the new 13" models now have the intel 6100 integrated.
