SMPTE Hardware

Hi all.
I'm gathering my research on SMPTE. I'm new to Vjaying. Anyway, is there any SMPTE hardware to use so I can sync my visuals with audio signals using Resolume ? I have read up on AKAI MPC 2000 and seems like there's more administration such has buying an SMPTE PC Board then solder it onto AKAI motherboard. I really don't want to find myself using a soldering iron, I struggled with that during my electronics classes back in university.
Any good SMPTE hardware to use ?
