one problem with playing high res footage is hard drive transfer speed. using a Raid array will fix that problem. unless you play vector bassed footage (flash), then there will not be much transfer from the hard drive to RAM.

also what res is your projector, cause there is no use in playing footage that is a higher res then the projector, i think most are 1024x756 anyway, so you shouldnt have much of a problem cause you wouldnt want to use footage over that res.

most of my footage is at 480x360, and that runs fine with 3 layers, i use indeo 5.11, cant remember the settings, but you should be able to figure it out by your self.

the only problem i have is CPU power when using effects.

projector:
I do various gigs in various venues and every time the teqnikal support is provided by
someone other than me (i.e. prod.companies or museums or club owners). anyway I had the chance to work with good beamers (resolution up to 1920 x 1440) so that's not the issue. ____________________________________
thanks anyway, senior Levon, for the tip with Raid array.

I intend to use footages at 720x576 resolution (no longer than 10 seconds loops).
When I set the resolution higher than 512x384, resolume dies. shall I get mo' RAM?
The point is that I want to move to "crystal clear" output since most of my footages
are shot on my HD cam (1080x720)

as for the quicktime error>>>what's the codec?!?! anybody?!?!

The best results I've recieved from using quicktime MJPEG A. Haven't had as good luck with B. As for resolution - first off lack of ram won't stop resolume from crashing, that sounds like maybe a driver error. Try using more standard resolution sizes. 640x480 works well for me, but it didn't until I set up my RAID 0 striping array. Read deeper into the hardware forum for best setups.

Just another question about hi-res Resolume playback,

if I render my videos as Indeo AVIs,
is it better to use 640x480 or 720x576 to project in PAL?

BTW, I've just started experimenting with 720x576 ones,
and Resolume wasn't too happy about those,
played them fine until reaching the end of the clip,
then froze instead of looping...

Tried it on my Dell 9200
I think it's running on about nVidea 128MB, 256 Ram, 2.3 GHz...

Fast external hard drives may be the key - Apparently you can scratch full quality DV with ease on a 10,000rpm RAID in Resolume.

You can get external firewire800 RAID from Miglia's DualDisc I think, although it's probably 2x72,000rpm and you'd need a firewire800 pcmcia card for your laptop.

BTW Saw you at Livevevil in Glasgow couple of months ago, didn't see any external drives, unless the 9200 was the one with 2 hard drives in?... ;)

First check this

hi,

before u use 720X576 resolution clips u should check if your process resolution in resolume can be set to that resolution. if you cant select it dont use vids that are that resolution because resolume scales your movies to process resolution with your processor. and thats a lot of work for your processor to scale a couple of layers of vids realtime to process resolution and than add effects, maybe some audio analisys and so on...
my gues is that resolume hangs because of this...
if your videocard supports the 720x576 res u should be able to select it in your output settings in resolume, if you cant select it it doesnt support it...

and btw, the way to check if your harddrive is fast enough is to just play 3 layers of clips with all 3 alpha to 100, if the top one runs smooth your harddrive is fast enough...

good luck!
