dual monitor 1.51 vs Resolume Screen setup

I have been using resolume 1.51 and now am trialling v2. The old dual monitor option is very simple in 1.51, but I can't make it work for a similar set up for v2 through the screen set up option.
I only have a garden variety compaq notebook, and thus have not been able to really split the screen. I just choose 'dual monitor' in 1.51, then enlarge the pop up to take the whole screen, and then project that through my data projector. I have memorised my keys for files and plugins and commands, so it is very simple.
Can someone please tell me, I guess, firstly, what I need to do (hardware wise) to run a real dual monitor, on v2 (so I have detail on my laptop screen and a full screen image coming out of the projector).
And failing that, if it is possible to get a full screen up on my laptop and just slave that through the data projector. Or is it impossible to get that happening as one of the system requirements of v2 is to be able to run dual monitors.
Additionally, and this may be symtomatic of my lack of the right video card, I am getting real dodgy pixellation in my projections on 1.51 and some crazy lines that looks like someone has dragged a comb through my images. Does anyone know what this is?
