Another "Low Memory" Question
Posted: Mon Aug 01, 2016 20:09
I've read through several topics and haven't really found anything that fits the issue I'm having so I thought I'd ask on here (as well as email Resolume).
I have 9 layers. 5 of the layers are set to normal play and 4 layers are set to piano play (I have to specify each clip to be piano or normal, since I can't do this per layer. Is there a way to make each layer be piano or normal? This would save a lot of time in the future). I have 10 columns per deck.
On the 4 piano layers I have an auto mask FX turned on so the decks can be used for punch through designs to overlay ontop of the videos playing below it.
For global FX, i have 5 colorize fx, 5 strobe FX, and 8 other FX such as rgb delay, quad mirror, suckr, and etc. ALL FX are set to bypass be default and the FX are fired off via piano style so they won't stay active when i release the button. All clips are DXV3 files, I have 4 clips that are regen from docoptic (resolume generated content, like moving squares i use to overlay for FX), these clips are piano mode.
soooooo.... When my ram usage hits 50% the low memory warning comes on and when my memory hits 75-80% usage resolume crashes. I was wanting to see if we can figure out why this is happening?
My session has 10 Decks all with the same configuration (about 70-90 clips per deck). Output is 2 screens with 1 slice each (main and preview output) 720p
apc40mkII controller
quad core i7 processor, 6gb video card and 8gb of ram. solid state drives and windows 7.
My video memory is hitting about 500mb of the 6gb usage so the video memory is hardly being used...
i'm upgrading my memory to 32gb this week when it comes in, but 8gb should be more than enough, right!?! I rather figure out why it's using so much and what the culprit is.
The way i run the session is i keep all my fx on bypass and all my clips off when not used. i only 2 moving contents at a time and will throw up a 3d layer (piano style) for FX at a few key points here and there. I only use 2-3 FX at any given time and again, just a piano punch in fx here and there then they're bypassed.
When i stop a clip or FX i've noticed my memory doesn't reset, why is that? that clip isn't being used and the fx is recording data to process, so why doesn't my memory clear up after i bypass the fx and stop and clear the clip?
Why is my physical memory being used rather than my video memory?
what do you think the culprit is? what should i change or remove to free up ram?
When resolume starts, my memory usage is at 32% and it steadily grows about 1-2% per min. so after about 5-10 min (depending on how much stuff i do) i have to close and reopen resolume mid show so it doesn't crash, and I can control when i stop the playback (between songs). I shouldn't have to do this and I'm hoping we can figure out a solution.
Thanks guys, have a great week!
