I am having an intermittent playback issue in Resolume but I can’t get to the bottom of it. I have a really important event on Wednesday and tomorrow (Monday) is my last day of prep so I need to find out what is going on.

When I play my individual DXV files on my laptop through Quicktime Player 7 they all look fine. But sometimes when I play them in Resolume some of them (it doesn’t appear to be all by any means) have a slight stutter in playback, almost as if every second or so there a slight hesitation. It’s subtle but quite noticeable.

Does anyone have any idea what might be causing this? I am just playing one stream in Resolume with an occasional mix to another stream. everything is split across two decks.

Is this a file length or feel size issue? Is there a size limit? The files are all DXV HQ. The clips vary from 10 to 21 mins and file sizes from 15 to 33GB. They are all in a folder on the desktop of the laptop and the drive is SSD. They are playing on a brand new top of the range MacBook Pro with the top spec graphics card. As I said, when the playback issue was there in Resolume the same files still played fine within Quicktime on the same machine. I'm at a bit of a loss...

I really don't want to have a lottery as to whether this will play ok on the night or not. Anyone got any ideas for me to find out what is going on and deal with it?

what are the clip frame rates?
do the clips have audio? do you hear the audio glitching too? audio buffer size?
the slight hesitation, does it look like frame drop, or more like a frame freeze? how long does it take?
do you see the fps counter drop also?
monitoring the processes could show a change in system/disk load when the issue appears

Also, are you running your clips in timeline or BPM mode?

Ah, I hadn't thought about that. I've just had a look. When I click on each clip in Clip info/Transport it says 'Timeline' so I guess they are in Timeline mode?

I haven't been able to recreate this stutter effect today but still have no idea what caused it. Right now the clips are playing fine. It makes me nervous though.

a too small audio buffer size can have an impact on video playback too, even if you have no audio files playing.
the best way to set it is to play an audio file, and check the different buffer size settings to get smooth, click free playback, and leave it there.
on my mac I have it set to 512, on my pc it is set to 2048.
