Setup for a Projection Mapped show question

I am planning for a show that will use projection mapping. There will be 2 screens and a single projector. One is an hexagonal screen and the second screen is a separate triangle screen slightly in front of it in the upper-middle of it. Sometimes, projection will cover the whole hexagon, and sometimes I will have different images on the triangle and the hexagonal screen behind it.
Projection mapping seems quite straightforward, but I want to check my approach and see if this is how you all would approach it.
1) Use 3 layers (layer 1 is for when I want the image on the whole hexagon, layer 2 is for when I want one image on the hexagon and a different one on the triangle, and layer 3 is dedicated to images that will project only on the triangle)
2) Using output|advanced I begin by creating 3 slices, one for each layer.
Slice 1 (layer 3): triangle, use input mapping to create image of triangle to fit my content into the triangle shape
Slice 2 (layer 2): input map of hexagon with triangle-shaped mask in the upper-middle
Slice 3 (layer 1): input map of hexagon
So, when I arrive at the venue, I can use output|advanced and use output mapping to make sure the images are aligned with the projection surfaces.
Using the GUI, I can trigger various clips based on the layer that they are in that will appear in JUST the triangle OR in the triangle AND the hexagon, OR just the hexagon.
Right?
My understanding on trigger effects with a midi controller, is that I would have to load the effects into the layers (AS OPPOSED TO making the effects into triggerable clips) and midi map them.
Seem right?
THANKS!
