Layer mask

VDMX user moving to Arena 5.

How do you make a simple mask layer setup without making 5 layers with 2 "Layer routers" as I've seen in this tutorial https://youtu.be/rP2bnQqLAvI ?

VDMX has a mask effect you add to a video layer and then in the effects parameters, you use a dropdown to select the layer to use as the mask. Simple! 2 layers and I have a mask.

My objective is to have a masked layer on the very top. Over everything.

Any ideas would be highly appreciated.

you can use a png/jpg file as a mask on any layer by dropping it on the layer:
https://resolume.com/manual/en/r5/layer ... properties
the same can be done with clips.
This png mask only affects the current layer.

If you want to use a video as mask you need to set the layer's blend mode to 50 Mask and turn the layer opacity all the way up. This layer then will mask all the layers below.

you can also use the png masks on layer routers and effect clips.

That's unfortunate. My b/w masks are video and I only want to effect one layer not every layer below. Beginning to see the limits of arena5.

this could be one for the feature request topic.

an effect you could drop to a clip or layer that would act as a mask, which could get its mask input from a layer you specify.(like the layer router)

You can achieve that with layer to slice routing and advanced output mapping.
My masks are in a own layer and get routed.
