Hi there,

I'm very new to any kind of video work but I'm trying to design a simple yet versatile LED grid for my bands live shows. So far I understand the basic components involved with the setup: LED tape, dimmer, power, dmx to usb interface. I was hoping to use Resolume arena to map any movement to the LEDs as it has the DMX output that can be used with LED tape right? Resolume seems to be great for making reactive visuals.

The difficulty I'm having is trying to figure out the right parts for the project. I already assume I'll be buying the Enttec DMX to USB Pro MK2 as the midi capability is important to us for changing clips and other things in Resolume during the performances. I'm having some trouble picking the other parts. Would the following items allow me to do what I want:

Enttec Pixie Driver
Enttec DMX to USB Pro MK2
Addressable LEDs such as these: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/5M-DC5V ... 0a492481b5

How can I know that say 2x5m rolls of that tape (600 LEDS) would be bright enough?

No one has any hints in the right direction for me?

A few hints:

• - Check this thread.
  - I would personally stay away from USB to DMX interfaces as Resolume is not going be supporting them any longer. Instead check out the Enttec ODE or the Chauvet NetX which is my new favorite.
  - if you decide to use the Pixie Drivers make sure you get the right Pixie Driver (5V, 12V or 24V) for your LED strips or vice versa

- if you need MIDI use a MIDI to USB adapter which will cost you about $25
- you shouldn't need dimmers

I need something bright enough to light up two dudes on a stage. Fairly small stages, indoors. I just have no reference point for knowing how bright the LEDs would have to be or how many of those LEDs I would need, that make sense?

Seems a strange choice for trying to light a stage. More of an effect or backlight feature. I'd suggest you look at LED pars, you'll still need some way of converting ArtNet to wired DMX.

It all depends on ambient light but if your venue is very dark, 600 LEDs should create enough light for you to see your two guys on stage. I would definitely recommend testing beforehand.

That's probably an artistic and budget-driven choice plus the LED pars would not allow for the chasing effect he's after. The Enttec ODE would work work work great to control the LED pars with Resolume.

or the enttec ethergate (is like the double ode) if you've got enough data to need two physical dmx in/outs
