Finding VJ work

Hi all, so I have been working with Resolume for a bit now and before this Photoshop, AE & Premiere. I have been a DJ for about 7 years and 5 of them I have been using music videos and all kinds of visual entertainment at my shows. I have made a fairly heavy investment in clips and a gig machine over the last couple of years while I had steady work.

The problem? Well allot of my reoccurring work has dried up (gone out of business) and competition is heavy in the DJ world. I really don't want to go back to that if I can avoid it. I do have a small reputation for video already in some Pro sound companies and got a few breaks out of that. Threw some free shows to get in and got nothing to show for it. But I just think I am looking in all the wrong areas for more steady work.

I would love to get in with a company and learn even more. I am strong enough to do it the hard way on my own if I had to. But with all the big acts having VJs already, how does one get an inside lead to kick start this VJ career that I have been integrating into my acts already?

I am in the USA and right between Boston and NYC. Very tech savvy, enthusiastic with plenty of references. I just don't know where to find some regular VJ work. Is it just like DJing? Show up at a club, make friends and pray for a shot? Only issue is my clubs don't use VJs. Do I go to concerts, get on the floor and introduce myself? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Been talking to my team about hiring another VJ for our events in nyc. But still a lot is on the table to see if it's financially feasible as venue, rental, and other talent costs are astronomical in nyc. If something happens soon we can talk more. But it would only be a event once in a while!

A issue is club events in NYC even mega clubs like Space Ibiza have space issues. So finding a place for everyone stuff is tough since often times there is a lack dedicated front of house.

Thanks! Once in a while would be great. I work full time M-F with good hours to get out after. I would just like to start somewhere. PM if you have a space for me.
