I had to get a new laptop in a pinch... not the best MSI but not the worst.. whenever i plug into anything the blacks are not true blacks.... rather the brightness seems lifted... Also some blacks appear as a blocky, choppy green. Ive dived through all the menus and swapped cables and fussed about for like three days...!

This is only on a HDMI correct? Have you tried a displayport out or gotten a usbC to displayport adpater?
Some nvidia chips sets only send out 0-235 colours and not 0-255 on only the HDMI.
Give me a phone call, not sure if your stateside or Australia right now.

I've had a few artists come through my stages with that exact same problem. looks great during the day, but when they plug in at night, when they go black, there's a bit of a green glow on the walls.
Is there a solution for this, or are they just SOL?
All were nVidia cards if memory serves me correct.
** just did a google and answered my question **
Setting your RGB range from Limited to Full seems to be the fix.
I noticed my setup is set to full, hopefully those guys will have the proper driver so the next time i see some of them (2 days) they can fix the problem (if they haven't already done so)
So strange that it would default to limited.

This is great, i thought it was 0-235 not 16-235. Always good to know!

Thanks guys,
I've been trying everything to change the rgb to full... Currently I've taken to fussing with the gamma in image pros and if necessary flipping the composite signal which is mysteriously coming out of my display port into rgb
I have yet to try the usbc... I will snag an adapter tomorrow when I go out about town
what is especially curious is that in my nvidia Control Panel I do not have the "display" tab...
I have been researching and possibly it is a PhysX issue... going to experiment tonight and report back if I still cant solve it... once I get the card to give up the display options I assume I can then force the full range rgb...

I would try using later nvidia drivers from their site and not the manufacturer.

I have this same issue with my 2014 Sager and 680M. When passing through an Edirol v800 or v1600 switcher they have an option to change the input color range to 16-235 which fixes the problem.
Interestingly the problem happens with both the dedicated HDMI port, a display port to HDMI adapter, and a mini display port to HDMI adapter. It doesn't matter which port I use, if HDMI is involved the problem shows up
Very interested in a fix if someone knows one.

Great read!
I had this issue last festival I worked and again on the festival I just finished up at.
Last festival we just scratched our heads, this one we needed to do something....
PC's were fine. My Razer is set to full and I had the guest VJ's check their machines to be sure.
The problem was with the MBP's. During the day, all the content looks great, but at night, the blacks glow lightly with a hint of green. The solution I found for this was to bypass the built in HDMI port and use my mini DP/lightning adapter to DVI. This tricks the MBP into thinking a monitor is connected rather than a TV and it sent the full 0-255 out (no more green glow)
2 things I'll be investigating over the next week or so is if:
SwitchResX supports the option to force the RGB scale or not (if so, i'll have a demo version downloaded on a thumb drive handy for people to use when they come through) ** not my ideal solution, but neither is using a MiniDP to DVI adapter (I hate adapters)**
or see if my Analogway or RGBlink can force an edid with a certain rgb range (tells the machine that it is a monitor rather than a TV)
Glad to know there is a solution, hopefully I can have one hardcoded and ready so when people show up I don't have to give a 5 min explanation why we have to use an adapter or install software to fix their problem.
