Laggy playback of DXV 2.2 Clips (but not DXV3?)

Hello friends,
I have an intermittent issue that's haunted me for some time but only became a big problem this weekend at a festival.
I've got a large (800gb+) content library that is mostly encoded in DXV 2.2.
Sometimes, when I trigger just one of these clips Resolume will begin to lag and the FPS will drop from 30-40 to 5-6.
Once the clip has played all the way through once, it stop lagging, almost as if the clip was loading into memory?
Key word is sometimes, as this behavior is NOT consistent.
What IS consistent is that this does not seem to happen with recently encoded DXV3 clips even when those clips are much larger (ex. 1080p30 DXV3 vs 720p30 DXV2.2).
Specs:
Sager Laptop
Win 7 (On SSD)
Arena 5.13
GTX680M
Content (on separate internal SSD)
I'll be testing to figure this out, but I wanted to see if anyone else might have had a similar experience.
